John L. McGoldrick is Senior Vice President of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), a leading non-profit organization in the HIV vaccine field and a hub of HIV vaccine research. He is also Chairman of the Board of Zimmer, the world’s largest maker of artificial hips, knees and other orthopedic products, where he has Chaired the Corporate Governance and Compensation Committees, and sits on the Audit and Science and Technology Committees.

He was previously Executive Vice President of Bristol-Myers Squibb where he had various roles including General Counsel, President of the Medical Devices Business Group, and Vice Chair of the Executive Committee. He oversaw the company’s $150 million“Secure the Future” program testing HIV treatment models in Africa, the Pediatric AIDS Corps, and the Children’s Centers of Excellence Programs. He chaired the Accelerating Access Initiative, a global consortium of five U.N.-led international agencies and eight pharmaceutical companies to increase access to anti-retroviral medicines. He was also instrumental in a number of other HIV initiatives including reducing developing world prices to no-profit levels, licensing patents and technology transfer to generic companies, and the donation of microbicides.

Before Bristol-Myers Squibb, he was a Senior Partner and Executive Committee member at McCarter & English. He is a Member of the American Law Institute, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and a Member of the Association of General Counsel and the Council of Chief Legal Officers.

He has sat on a number of non-profit, commercial, educational and public boards, including: New Jersey Transit, 3d largest transit company in the U.S.; the Visiting Committees of Harvard College and of the Harvard School of Public Health; Montclair State University; the Drexel University School of Law and the Association of State Colleges and Universities. He has regularly attended the Aspen Institute on the World Economy and the World Economic Forum at Davos. He has lectured and taught on a variety of subjects, including for the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). He is a graduate of Harvard College and the Harvard Law School.
