Retirees and consultants have always been willing to work on a temporary basis, but today the market is much more highly developed, with numerous firms providing qualified candidates for specific jobs. They range from the likes of Executive Interim Management, Spherion, and Robert Half International Management Resources, which specialize in senior-level interim executives (including CEOs), to turnaround firms such as Jay Alix & Associates, which provide entire teams to help a company pull itself together. More traditional agencies like Accountemps also fill finance slots below the rank of CFO.The firms shown here have their own ways of doing things. Spherion maintains a database of independent contractors whom it hires as needed to fulfill clients’ requirements. Tatum CFO Partners, by contrast, uses only its own partners to fill the slots that come its way. Crossroads uses its own employees as well.
